As with any surgical procedure, labiaplasty carries potential risks and complications, including:

  • Infection: Infections can occur after surgery and may require treatment with antibiotics.
  • Bleeding: Excessive bleeding is a potential risk, and it may necessitate medical intervention.
  • Scarring: Like all surgical procedures, scarring is possible. However, skilled surgeons aim to minimize scarring and ensure that it remains discreet.
  • Asymmetry: Achieving perfect symmetry can be challenging. Minor asymmetry may occur, although it is usually not a significant concern.
  • Numbness: Some women may experience temporary numbness in the surgical area, which typically resolves over time.
  • Dissatisfaction with Results: It’s essential to have realistic expectations about the outcomes of labiaplasty. Some individuals may not be entirely satisfied with the results, prompting potential revision surgeries.

Labiaplasty FAQ

How until I can to go back to work or sit all day?

For first 48 hours after the surgery, it’s best to lie down as much as possible. After surgery, apply a numbing cream to the area several times a day as well as using ice packs on the area. The procedure isn’t painful and the numbing cream and ice keep you comfortable. Some patients take Tylenol or a low-dose narcotic. It feels like a 2 to most women on a pain scale of 1 to 10. Urinating doesn’t cause pain. Patients can return to work on the third day after labiaplasty, assuming they don’t lift anything heavy at work for approximately two weeks.

Can I still have children if I have this procedure?

Yes you can! As long as you’re not planning to get pregnant within the next year, labiaplasty will not interfere in any way with your ability to get pregnant and give birth to children vaginally. It’s probably best to postpone the procedure if you’re actively trying to get pregnant since childbirth may affect the results or shape of your genitals.

How long does healing take after a Labiaplasty?

Intercourse should be avoided for about 6 weeks after a labiaplasty. By week 6 to 8, the healing is complete, and no restrictions are needed.

Like any surgery, it takes at least 6 weeks for the initial swelling to recede, and 6 months up to a year for the results to be absolutely complete. Incisions are hidden in the natural crease of the labia region. There is usually very little scarring.
